Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic therapy involving the gentle pouring of warm liquids on the forehead (referred to as the ‘third eye’). Shirodhara comes from the Sanskrit words: shiro meaning ‘head’ and dhara meaning ‘flow’. It is an effective, purifying and rejuvenating therapy. Shirodhara is renowned for treating issues related to stress such as tension, headaches, anxiety, pain, insomnia, exhaustion and depression. It also works on dispersing negative impulses, which accumulates at the skull and hairline due to stress. This continuous stream of liquid calms the body and mind, slowly inducing healthy blood circulation while relaxing and soothing the nervous system. In turn, this reduces any agitation leading to a relaxed meditative state which allows for the addressing of ailments. This tranquillity initiates repair resulting in increased vitality and stability. Shirodhara also improves skin conditions and the complexion, whilst rejuvenating the entire face. It can be used with specific oils to treat hair loss, premature greying of hair and damaged hair conditions. With the alleviation of symptoms, results of Shirodhara include feeling invigorated in body and mind, increased alertness, increased confidence and a greater sense of wellbeing. A brief consutation is essential before treatment to assess body type for an individualized therapy. The liquids used include organic oil, herbal oil, decoction or oil and water emulsion. It is recommended to allow for time to relax post session.
